Heat Pump Grants Under Pressure? Why Homeowners Should Pay Attention

Recent reports have raised questions about the future of Government heat pump funding.

With the Autumn Budget approaching, national newspapers have reported that ministers are considering reductions to energy spending, potentially affecting the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Nothing has been confirmed, but the reports are a reminder that Government funding cannot be taken for granted.

What funding is available right now?

Eligible homeowners in England and Wales can currently benefit from:

  • £7,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump installation.

  • £9,000 towards an eligible heat pump installation in an off-gas-grid property currently heated by oil or LPG.

  • 0% VAT on qualifying heat pump installations under current rules.

For homeowners considering a heating upgrade, this support can make a significant difference to the overall investment.

Could the Budget change things?

Possibly. But until official announcements are made, nobody can know exactly what will happen.

The important distinction is that reported spending cuts are not the same as confirmed changes to individual grants.

Why start your application now?

A heat pump installation requires proper planning, including a property assessment, heat loss calculations, system design and eligibility checks.

Starting early gives you time to make an informed decision and, if appropriate, have an MCS-certified installer submit your grant application.
